A matter of statistics: discovering Chianti, the most widely drunk wine in Italy

Statistics is a discipline whose aim is the quantitative and qualitative study of a particular collective phenomenon under condition of uncertainty or non-determinism. We open the Italian language Wikipedia page for “Statistics”. It seems to share little with the world we are used to: the one made up of rows of vines, barrels and must-scented cellars. Yet wine is not “only” this: we cannot leave out what comes afterwards. The phase of placing on the market, sale and diffusion of what is the fruit of our labour.

Wine and statistics

Let us start from a shared assumption: wine is one of the most appreciated Italian products in the world. This can be measured precisely through statistics – the world day of statistics is being celebrated in this period. It is precisely statistics that inform us which wines are preferred. One name, in itself, has over time become synonymous with Italian wine in every corner of the globe: Chianti. According to the data presented by IRI at the last Vinitaly, in fact, Chianti sells between 10 and 15 million litres per year throughout Italy, with a growth rate of 3.7% during 2021.

As good wine lovers, we know that the Chianti and Chianti Classico appellations are different. In this case, the data on both are aggregate. Here in Carpineto, on the other hand, we offer excellent bottles of both types. Starting with the Carpineto Chianti Castaldo: a fruity, floral wine with beautiful acidity and pleasant drinkability, expressing all the aromas and intensity of Sangiovese in its exuberant youthfulness. Moving towards the heart of the Chianti region, in the territory of Greve in Chianti, we then find all our great Chianti Classico family.

Carpineto Chianti Classico Family

Carpineto Chianti Classico fully respects the great history of the appellation. An intense wine, with a broad and floral bouquet, fresh and balanced to the drink. We continue with a glass of Carpineto Chianti Classico Riserva: a wine with harmonious and elegant scents and a full, warm flavour. A bottle of great class to offer to friends during a dinner of game or Florentine steaks.

Last but not least: Carpineto Chianti Classico Gran Selezione. The top of the pyramid in the appellation. A wine we only produce during five-star vintages, with grapes that are strictly hand-picked, carefully selected and brought perfectly intact to the cellar to fully preserve the scents and power of Sangiovese. Carpineto Chianti Classico Gran Selezione is the ultimate expression of this great appellation that continues to be fully appreciated in Italy and throughout the world, as statistics remind us.

Never was there a more suitable occasion to toast the world day, and thus taste one of our goblets from the generous land of Chianti.
