The Elegance of Appodiato Wine

Where viticulture areas meet with some of the best vintages in in the world. This is a winning combination that we at Carpineto are constantly looking for in all of our productions and – in particular – in our Appodiati line.

We look to create full-bodied, structured wines that fit into the historic tradition of Tuscan winemaking tradition. This starts with the name – the Appodiato was a fraction of municipal territory run by a local mayor, who were privileged to some autonomy with respect to the Papal States on which it depended. The term Appodiato not only marked the geographical territory but it also indicated what activities and productions took place on that same territory.

Carpineto decided to bring light to this fascinating word, which connects past and present, tradition and future. The Appodiato has become the symbol of what we still do on these lands – passing on an historic tradition through hard work and winemaking, with the utmost respect for quality, the environment, those who work in our vineyard and in our wine cellars. Great wines have always been the happy expression of when nature and man work together in full harmony.

Now, let’s get to know our six Appodiati a bit more: our two Cru di Nobile di Montepulciano, from vineyards called “St. Ercolano” and” “Poggio Sant’Enrico”, located in the historic Poliziano territory reaching heights of 300 to 350 meters above sea level; our Cabernet Sauvignon in purity “La Fornace” produced in Chianciano; our “Molin Vecchio”, an elegant blend of Sangiovese (80 percent), our Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah which further enriches our Montepulciano soils; our “Sillano”, coming from the historic lands of Dudda, in the heart of Chianti Classico; and, speaking of the wonderful hilly area between Florence and Siena, the “Chianti Classico Gran Selezione”.

These are all wines which offer a unique sensory experience in your glass. Let’s keep in mind though that in depth tastings are experienced with all of senses, including that of listening and touch. This is what we tell all Carpineto guests.

Even the sound of a glass of our Appodiati being poured is unique, and characterized by chewiness due to the great polyphenolic concentration, almost double compared to a Riserva. These wines are characterized by extensive taste-olfactory persistence, absolute finesse, elegance and structure. The Appodiati line is a product of the best Tuscan and Italian viticulture, and is one of the highest expressions of our work in the vineyard and in the cellar.

From an historic and production method perspective, these great wines are made to rise to the test and comparison of any great international cultivation or harvest. Appodiati wines are produced in vintages that we deem perfect in terms of individual vineyards that highlight the uniqueness of each microzone which are bottled and treated, without filtration but for natural settling. Appodiati di Carpineto wines lend themselves to long refinements – these are bottles made for connoisseurs, collectors and a must for the home wine collection of any wine lover.

The best food pairings for our Appodiati wines are roasts and grilled meats – in particular the famous Florentine steak. In addition to the Tuscan regional cuisine, there are many other delicious pairings for these quality wines, such as dark chocolate and our Nobile Montepulciano Vigneto di Poggio Sant’Enrico, which perfectly balances the bitter streak of cocoa; or more complex preparations such as braised meats, perfect with the Chianti Classico Gran Selezione. Finally, the Appodiati are also perfect meditation wines, to be savored slowly in the serenity of your own home.
