Valcolomba and Camponibbio: two great Farnito compared

Originally it was the Carpineto Farnito Cabernet Sauvignon, in 1987. A Super Tuscan wine of considerable weight: velvety, structured and with a polished tannic taste, one of our most highly appreciated wines at a world level. It was a short step from the Cabernet Sauvignon to the Merlot. And so we have welcomed the Carpineto Farnito Camponibbio and the Carpineto Farnito Valcolomba into our great family. Two wines born in two different vineyards: Tenuta Vino Nobile the former; Valcolomba, in the heart of the Maremma, the latter. And each one expresses the best of our local viticulture in its own way. Now let’s get to know them in more depth.

Carpineto Farnito Camponibbio

Let’s start with our Farnito Camponibbio. We are in the southern part of our vineyard of Vino Nobile, in one of the areas most suited to viticulture in the whole of Tuscany. We dedicate detailed attention to this wine starting from the harvesting stage. Only the grapes responding best to the seasonal trends are selected and then taken to the wine cellar. It is precisely for this reason that the blending may change according to the year. However, basically we are talking about Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and a percentage of Sangiovese. Each individual variety is vinified separately so that they can express their sensory characteristics to their best.

After malolactic fermentation is completed ten days after racking, the wine is put into oak barrels of different capacity for about twelve months and finally bottled, where it spends a long period of ageing and stabilisation. The result will be a persistent and intense glass with strong hints of wild berries, plum, vanilla, cocoa, coffee, liquorice and a slightly spicy aftertaste, highlighting its absolute pleasantness, both to the nose and to the palate. Equilibrium is the keyword for our Farnito Camponibbio: in the mouth it opens in all its warmth, its complexity and its smoothness, expressing its body and its structure to the best. A magnificent wine for extra-special occasions.

Carpineto Farnito Valcolomba

Let’s point the compass towards the sea. We shall go down the hill towards Montalcino and arrive at Maremma, where our splendid Valcolomba vineyard is located. It is here, on the red earth surrounding our vineyards, that the Carpineto Farnito Valcolomba was born. Basic variety: Merlot. Plus other varieties in a small percentage, also defined by seasonal trends. And in this case too, like for our Farnito Camponibbio, we perform malolactic fermentation that gives us a velvety, elegant and complex wine.

A stronger tannic taste than its “cousin” from the province of Siena, but a similarly integrated structure. The aromas clearly express the enormous potential of the Merlot in the Tuscan area: wild berries, blackberries, cherry, cloves, a hint of black pepper, accompanied by a refined blend of other aromas like vanilla and liquorice. Finally, the taste is fully coherent with the sensory test: warm and velvety, defining all the taste-sensory refinement of this great wine. An ideal accompaniment to the great dishes of the Tuscan tradition, from roast meats to game.

Two great wines for special occasions, for your own moments of relaxation, for a pleasant drink with friends. Carpineto Farnito Camponibbio and Carpineto Farnito Valcolomba are the best expression of what we intend for innovation in vine growing and wine making: great international varieties at the service of the solid tradition of Tuscan viticulture.
