Wine to the rhythm of jazz: the best glasses for meditation
At the end of April International Jazz day is celebrated. It was declared by Unesco to celebrate one of the most famous music genres in the world. In the collective imagination, wine and Jazz have often gone hand in hand. Perhaps because both identify a way of carving out some time for yourself. Maybe because in general both require specific and particular terminology to be described. Or maybe because, listening to good music and sipping a glass of wine are basically activities that are always pleasant to do together. For this reason, on occasion of this jazz day celebrated by Unesco, we would like to recommend some of our best wines for meditation. Those you could enjoy relaxing in an armchair, while the notes of your favourite music albums fill the air.
Appodiato di Montepulciano – Vigneto di Poggio Sant’Enrico
In our Montepulciano vineyard, we produce the Vino Nobile wine at an altitude of about 350 metres above sea level. Our Appodiato di Montepulciano Vigneto di Poggio Sant’Enrico is a Nobile di Montepulciano wine made with single-variety Sangiovese grapes. It comes from the best exposed bunches of the whole vineyard. The careful selection of the grapes, vinification performed using native yeasts, maturing in French and American wooden barrels and an ageing of over 45 months in the bottle, provide a strongly balanced, profoundly elegant and solidly structured wine. A glass that reveals all of the most elegant facets of the Sangiovese, king of the Tuscan vines, giving us a complex, intense and persistent wine, perfect not only for the food pairings, but also to be slowly sipped in balloon glasses. Recommended musical pairing: Duke Ellington. A Jazz grand classic for an extremely elegant wine label.
Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2015
Coming from our vineyards located at about 500 metres above sea level (by no accident called “Paradiso”), the Carpineto Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2015 is a true icon of world vine growing. Our version of one of the best known and most highly appreciated Tuscan denominations in the world is a fine and elegant wine, balanced from its early years of life and ready for a long lifetime. Hints of morello cherries, wild berry jam, plums, and mulberry blend perfectly with the secondary aromas of spices and other toasted ones: from vanilla, to cocoa, to coffee. A profound and extremely marked persistence, which highlights the powerful structure of this great wine.
We recommend that you pair it, musically speaking, with a Miles Davis record. A musician fully inducted and rightly so, into the Jazz Hall of Fame, he is, at the same time an original and innovative artist. The perfect synthesis of a long tradition and a drive towards innovation, as only the greatest artists (and the greatest wines) know how.
Chianti Classico Gran Selezione 2015
The latest arrival (but only in chronological terms) in our Appodiati line, Carpineto Chianti Classico Gran Selezione is a wine only produced in five star vintage years. It is matured in small French oak barrels for 18 months, followed by a long ageing process and stabilisation in bottles, at a constant temperature and humidity. A painstaking process providing a solid, broad and persistent wine. The top quality of the Chianti Classico denomination, expressed through its powerful polyphenol concentration with strong hints of wild berries, spices, vanilla and leather. A wide-ranging bouquet fully confirmed by the gustatory analysis: velvety, full, warm, presence of tannins, but never invasively so.
Quality making it a perfect glass for meditation while, in a totally relaxing atmosphere, we listen to a Dizzy Gillespie track. A key figure of modern Jazz, that we pair ideally with our Chianti Classico Gran Selezione for his capacity of innovating and creating new genres in an already solidly structured landscape.
Three glasses for meditation that you can enjoy by crossing and comparing, to find your perfect pairing with the fine music of the twentieth century.
