World Singles Day: three wines to enjoy in splendid solitude

Can anything be equal to the pleasure of a glass of wine drunk in company? The happiness of tasting, sip by sip, a good glass in splendid solitude. Wine is toasting and conviviality, of course; but also reflection and relaxation. It is no coincidence that we speak of meditation wines, referring to those glasses that need a long time to be appreciated in all their aspects. November 11 is World Singles Day. Not a random date – 11/11 – which recalls precisely the specificity of each individual. Well: just as there are those who like to keep their emotional independence, there are wines that do not have to be matched with some dishes. Looking for suggestions on this topic? Here are a few.

Appodiato di Montepulciano Vigneto di Poggio Sant’Enrico – Vino Nobile di Montepulciano

Let’s drive off in fifth gear. With one of our most celebrated and appreciated Crus. We are on the southern side of our Vino Nobile Estate, in the rolling hills of Montepulciano. The Sangiovese grapes, grown on soils with clayey sediments interspersed with sand, give us this great wine matured in French and American oak barriques for about twelve months. Aged then in the bottle for more than 45 months, at natural and constant temperatures, our Appodiato di Montepulciano Vigneto di Poggio Sant’Enrico is a pure Nobile di Montepulciano, with a very intense ruby red colour and garnet veins. Clear and persistent aromas, from wild berries to tertiary aromas of vanilla, cocoa and walnut, prelude to a full, soft, consistent taste.

A complex and elegant wine with a marked structure and great body, which expresses different facets with every sip if left to evolve in the large tasting glass. The perfect meditation wine for those who love to exalt their senses; to be served at around 20 degrees centigrade.

Carpineto Farnito Camponibbio

We are still in our Vino Nobile estate, this time on the eastern slope where – in the second half of the 1990s – we planted these Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot vineyards. Harvested at different times, depending on their degree of ripeness, these hand-selected grapes give us Carpineto Farnito Camponibbio: a wine matured for about 12 months in oak barrels of different capacities, then refined and stabilised at length in the bottle, it presents a very broad bouquet that gives us plum, blackberry, raspberry, cherry, clove, liquorice, cocoa and coffee. A marked persistence that opens the way to a warm and soft, mellow and complex taste, with velvety tannins and deep balance. Characteristics that make it a very fine goblet for a tasting to be sipped. To be served at 18-20 degrees centigrade.

Carpineto Farnito Sauvignon Grape Distillate

At the end of a meal, seated in an armchair, it is a pleasure to treat yourself to a relaxing moment in the company of a glass that closes lunch or dinner in the best possible way. Our Sauvignon grape brandy, placed in a long-stemmed tulip glass, will delight this moment. With its crystal-clear colour and aromas of flowers and white berries, our aquavit is clean and balanced on the palate.

Without any alcoholic edginess to spoil the taste. Refined, elegant and surprisingly soft, in the glass it evolves towards fresh hints of honey, walnut husk and rose. A sensory journey to be appreciated, minute by minute, without getting carried away by haste. Who said, after all, that one cannot enjoy a good glass of wine all alone? The flavours and aromas of our favourite nectar know no boundaries. So: Happy World Singles Day and an ideal toast to those who enjoy the pleasures of the palate.
